Day 176 So, so, so glad to be home and actually be able to spend some time on something. I was so inspired by all the little wooden toys in Germany. I could have spent the whole time exploring toy stores. Fo realz.
Day 172 & 173 After our awesome trip to Germany, we flew to Istanbul to visit family for a few days. The first day we went to some crazy museums: Arter Museum and Pera Muzesi. We some some beautiful glass sculptures, awesome Picasso sketches, and some insane installation pieces. Arter Museum was exhibition work by Mark Quinn. The most shocking piece there was the cast he made of his head, entirely with his own blood. I was not expecting to turn a corner and see a blood head in a refrigerator, that’s for sure! So, so weird.
Day 171 We spent one day journeying to Chemnitz from Leipzig while our friend worked. The weather was incredible, the market was adorable, smelled amazing, and best of all, we got to see the huge Karl-Marx head!! Hilarious. So many funny people out that day.
One of our friends that we stayed with in Leipzig (also an artist/illustrator), started a huge collection of sculptures. She saved all the plastic corks from wine bottles that she could find, and whittled them into finger tips. She was insistent that I didn’t post any of the pictures of the actual fingers, but was happy that I was inspired to paint and draw them. I so, so badly wish I could show you the picture of her pieces! They are hilarious and also incredibly creepy.
I should probably just post once with bigger clusters of drawings, but I space them out so that I can see my progress and not blend my days together. Each sketch, whether stupid or not, always reminds me of that particular day. I like that.
